Schweinfurt, 20 April 2011 – ZF Sachs is involved in the DTM as official supplier from the 2011 season onwards. In the most popular international touring car series the technology company is represented in the future by an easily and uniquely identifiable image at DTM race tracks. ZF Sachs has equipped various partners for many years, for the 2012 season and beyond the three premium automobile manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz rely exclusively on the company’s clutch systems.

“ZF Sachs won a tender to be the exclusive clutch supplier in the DTM,” explains Norbert Odendahl, Head of ZF Sachs Race Engineering. “We consider this decision to be recognition of our technological expertise and look forward to justifying the confidence placed in us in such a high-calibre race series.”

ZF Sachs Race Engineering technicians and engineers are already looking to the future of the DTM: they develop a standard race clutch from the Formula model range for the powerful touring car producing around 353 kW (480 hp). Its features: high-quality materials, pronounced longevity and thus cost-efficient operating conditions for every manufacturer. With standing starts and spectacular pit stops the module must repeatedly put its high-performance to the test. ZF Sachs Race Engineering was previously involved as sought-after supplier in numerous race and championship victories in DTM.

“The DTM is a real power in international motorsport,” explains Dr Peter Ottenbruch, Executive Vice President, Technology of ZF Friedrichshafen AG. “With an average of 1.2 million television viewers per race, excellent attendance figures at the races, other impressive media data and eleven events in Europe this series will form in the future an important element of our motorsport-related sponsorship activities.”

The responsible parties in the DTM emphasise the importance of the new cooperation as well: “The DTM currently sets the agenda for the future and will certainly continue to be the international benchmark for touring car racing. We are delighted that we have gained, in the form of ZF Sachs, an expert technical pioneer as partner for the DTM,” says Walter Mertes, Board Member for Marketing of ITR e.V., the DTM rights holder and marketer.
